Experimental measurements and analysis in EE2

There are 7 experiments which will be carried out in 8 lab sessions. In weeks 4, 5, and 6 the following three experiments will rotate (the corresponding section in the textbook by Garland, Nibler and Schoemaker (GNS), 7. edition, is specified)

• Heat of combustion, GNS 6 (Brennsluvarmamæling), additional information
• Absorption spectrum of a conjugated dye, GNS 34 (Litrófsgreining litarefna), additional information
• Heat capacity ratios for gases, GNS 3B (Varmarýmdarhlutfall gasefna), additional information

• Vapor pressure of a pure liquid, GNS 13.2 (Gufuþrýstingur hreins vökva), additional information
• Cryoscopic determination of molecular weight, GNS 10 (Bræðslumarkslækkun), additional information
• Absorption spectrum of molecular iodine, GNS 39 (Gleypniróf joðs á sýnilega sviðinu), additional information
• Statistical thermodynamics of iodine sublimation, GNS 48 (Tölfræðileg varmafræði þurrgufunar joðs), additional information

A full report needs to be turned in for 3 of the 7 lab exercises: (1) the heat of combustion, (2) vapor pressure of a pure liquid and (3) the statistical thermodynamics of iodine sublimation. Short reports are sufficient for the other 4 lab exercises. More on how to write lab reports is given in this pdf file and additional notes pdf file.

Remember, that you need to have turned in the reports for the first three labs before taking the midterm exam, and lab reports for all seven experiments need to have been handed in by December 4 in order to be allowed to take the final exam.
